Lehrinhalte/Gliederung

The course covers the effective use of computers in working with analytical and data-driven models from chemistry, physics and engineering. Key topics are:

  • the interplay of computers, data and mathematics,
  • the Python programming language for data processing and visualization,
  • working with data and basic statistics,
  • ordinary and partial differential equations (ODEs and PDEs) for modeling in chemistry, physics and engineering,
  • solving ODEs and PDEs with Python, including parameter estimation problems
  • methods for data-driven modeling (linear regression, artificial neural networks and others)
  • the interplay of classical and data-driven modeling.
Qualifikationsziele

Students bridge the gap between mathematics and applications by employing classical as well as modern data-driven techniques. They are able to choose the most effective tool for each problem and understand the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. They have a sound understanding of ODE, PDE and data-driven models and know how to use the Python programming language to effectively work with such models. Having succesfully finished the course, students understand that practical problems are best solved with a well-considered mix of mathematics and data processing.

Besondere Zulassungsvoraussetzung
Empfohlene Voraussetzungen
